As part of the exhibition Salt in the Wound, Gold in the Vault, an international Artist in Residence Program will take place from 5 to 19 November 2025 in Koper, Slovenia. This dynamic two-week residency invites the artists to engage critically with the legacy of colonialism and its contemporary echoes through collaborative, site-specific, and community-oriented artistic practices.
The residency will take place across the prominent cultural venues in Koper, including the City Bell Tower, Praetorian Palace, Koper Regional Museum, Central Library of Srečko Vilhar, PiNA Koper, and VUO Koper, providing a rich and historically resonant backdrop for creative exploration and dialogue.
Participating artists will propose and lead a series of workshops, lectures, artist talks, and public interventions designed to promote exchange between local artists, cultural workers, university students, and the broader Koper community. These events will serve as platforms for collective reflection on Europe’s colonial past and its ongoing impact on identity, migration, and systems of power.
Rooted in the themes of the UNTOLD Europe project and its mission to amplify marginalized histories and voices, the residency encourages transnational collaboration and community engagement. Artists are encouraged to use a participatory approach that contributes to a broader conversation on reparative justice and historical accountability in Europe.
This residency is not only a space for artistic creation but also a laboratory of ideas and dialogue, bridging art and civic imagination to build a more inclusive and critically aware future.
