Why this project is important?

Across Europe, we’re seeing a rise in hate speech, discrimination, and misinformation. Migration debates are often framed through fear and control, while inequalities in education, housing, and work continue to affect racialized communities, women, and young people. Behind this reality lies a deeper story: the legacy of colonialism, slavery, and imperialism, which still shapes the way our societies think, act, and decide.

UNTOLD Europe exists because these histories can’t remain invisible. By uncovering the roots of today’s inequalities, we can better understand how discrimination works and, most importantly, how to challenge it. Our project creates spaces to reflect, question, and reimagine Europe’s future—one that is more inclusive, just, and true to its values of equality and human dignity.

Core values

UNTOLD Europe is built on three principles: Recognizing, Retelling, and Balancing.

Recognizing

Looking honestly at Europe’s colonial past and how it still influences policies and everyday life.

Retelling

Amplifying new voices and narratives that challenge stereotypes and bring forward anti-racist, feminist, and decolonial perspectives.

Balancing

Addressing how digital spaces and technologies can reinforce inequalities, while promoting fairer, more inclusive alternatives.

Through art, research, dialogue, and community action, UNTOLD Europe connects history with the present to shape fairer futures. Our values are simple but powerful: memory, justice, and transformation.

Who we are

UNTOLD Europe brings together a diverse team of organizations that share one goal: rethinking Europe’s story and making it more just.

Oxfam Intermón (Spain) – leading the consortium, with decades of experience fighting inequality worldwide.

Equinox (Brussels) – a coalition of racial and social justice leaders driving change in European policy.

Innovato (Slovenia) – an art space working with minorities and artists to spark new narratives.

Aspichi (Ukraine) – experts in immersive storytelling with VR and 360° video.

Qualia (Greece) – using theatre and exhibitions to build empathy and inclusion.

ECPS (Brussels) – researching political populism and connecting scholars, activists, and policymakers.

Together, we are activists, artists, researchers, and changemakers. Through UNTOLD Europe, we want to open up conversations, share knowledge, and build bridges for a fairer and more inclusive Europe.
